In October of 1998, 21-year old Matthew Shepard, a local gay college student, was beaten to death by two men in Laramie, Wyoming, because he was gay. Based on interviews with residents of Laramie, Wyoming, Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project then created this moving theatrical experience, that explores how low humanity can sink, and how high and deep compassion can be.
